VW against VW.
Same badge. Two clocks. Decision to production, in months. Published on LinkedIn, 11 August 2026.
Claim
Volkswagen states its normal development time for one new car in Germany as 54 months. Volkswagen's own releases document 24 months for the ID.UNYX 08 (with XPENG, cooperation start to series production, Hefei) and 36 months for the entry platform developed by VW alone at its Hefei hub. Same company, two clocks.
Supporting claims in the post: Mercedes raises its low cost country production share from 15% to 30% by 2027 (their own announcement). German plants Sindelfingen, Rastatt, Bremen hold about 900k units of capacity with current production near 200k per plant (Automobilwoche, company sources, attributed as single-source). BMW's newest plant is Debrecen, Hungary (iX3 SOP Q4 2025). BYD builds Szeged, Hungary. Škoda margin 8.5% vs Porsche 1.1% (H1 2026 reports).
Wolfsburg to Hefei is stated as about 8,000 km in the post (great-circle about 7,800 km, rounded). The 24 in the previous chart (BMW launch calendar, see /evidence/same-country-same-engineers/) and the 24 in this chart (one car, Hefei) are different clocks that share a number.

Definitions (the clocks)
Clock A: single-vehicle development, decision to production. The 54, the 24, the 34.
Clock B: platform development. The 36 (entry platform). MMA and Neue Klasse both ran about 55 to 57 months announcement to first car.
Clock C: derivate cadence off a finished platform (BMW 40-in-24 from the previous chart). Not used in this chart.
The 24 in the previous chart (BMW launch calendar, see /evidence/same-country-same-engineers/) and the 24 in this chart (one car, Hefei) are different clocks that share a number. The post text disarms this explicitly.

Method
All chart numbers are the companies' own statements. Objections argue with the companies, not with us. The 900k / 200k capacity figures are insider-sourced via Automobilwoche and are attributed inline in the post text as such. They do not appear on the chart. XPENG's role in the 24 is stated on the chart itself ("one car, with XPENG"), not hidden.
